Linda Edna Cardellini was born in Redwood City, California, to Lorraine (Hernan) and Wayne David Cardellini, a businessman. Linda is Italian (from her maternal grandfather), Irish (from her mother), German, English and Scottish origins. Linda grew up living in her native San Francisco Bay area, California, the youngest of four children. She began her interest in acting at age ten, when she was a singer in a Christmas production at school. She performed in school plays as well as local community theater.
